Well the end the year is upon us. 2011 was a difficult year for many of my peeps. For me, it was a transition year. A transition from ideations of moving back to MA to really finding a home here in CA. Some of our highlights of the year, which I have posted on this blog are listed below via links:
Stick around in 2012 and see where this blog goes. The TravelingDogs are planning a drive to Alaska in July/August. Can't wait for that one. I will also be blogging about the holidays and birthdays that we celebrate, or don't. There will always be the dogs, Luther & BuddyJack. New responsibilities in life and love. Who knows! In the meantime, come for the ride and travel with us. Happy New Year!

It appears that there are actually two Bacon Days. The first is in September, but I recognize the second on December 30th! What better way to start to end the Christmas season and start the new year than with Bacon, everyone's favorite meat. Enjoy the sizzle and have some bacon today and everyday!

There have been numerous other blogs that I read heralding their millionth viewed post or their 5,000th post. Me, I get to herald 1300 viewed posts today. Thank you to all of my 3 followers and, especially you know who, and look forward to having you visit throughout the next year.
Have a safe and Happy New Year. Let's hope it's not our last...you know, 12/21/12 and the Mayans...
Cheers to 2012!

Although I am not huge fan of AAA, they are offering a great service for New Years Eve. The following is what they say on their website, which you can connect with here.
The Automobile Club of Southern California is offering its free Tipsy Tow service during the New Year’s Eve holiday for the 15th consecutive year. The community service is available from 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, to 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, to help remove drinking drivers from the road. Tipsy Tow is available in the 13 Southern California counties served by the Auto Club.
Motorists, bartenders, restaurant managers, party hosts or passengers of a drinking driver may call 1-800-400-4AAA for a free tow home of up to seven miles. Callers simply tell the Auto Club operators, “I need a Tipsy Tow,” to receive the free tow and ride home. A regular Auto Club-contracted roadside service truck will be dispatched. The Auto Club’s free service is unique in that it transports both the driver and their vehicle.
Drinking drivers frequently don’t plan for other ways to get home because they are concerned about retrieving their vehicle the next day. They cite taxi costs and inconvenience as reasons they don’t use alternate transportation, according to the Auto Club.
Callers need to keep in mind that the service excludes rides for passengers, is restricted to a one-way, one-time ride for the driverand the destination is limited to the driver’s residence. Reservations are not accepted. For rides farther than seven miles, drivers can expect to pay the rate charged by the tow truck contractor.
“Drivers should be aware of the high crash risk from drinking and driving associated with holidays and we encourage them not to get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking,” said the Auto Club’s senior researcher Steve Bloch.
New Year’s Eve is a traditional time for family gatherings, parties, restaurant outings and activities that contribute to a more relaxed atmosphere and more opportunities for drinking alcohol, according to Bloch.
“It only takes one or two drinks to slow physical and mental skills that affect vision, steering, braking judgment, and reaction time,” he said. “Drivers should be aware that the California Highway Patrol and law enforcement agencies use sobriety checkpoints and extra patrols to look for drinking drivers during the holiday.”
California arrests large numbers of DUI offenders every year, enough to fill LA Memorial Coliseum twice. In 2010 (latest data available) 198,249 drivers were arrested for the offense. “Motorists need to be aware that many enforcement agencies are targeting drinking drivers and as a result, arrests for DUI in the state have increased by 11 percent since 2001,” according to Bloch. “The toll from drinking and driving in California is enormous,” Bloch added. “In 2009, the latest data available, more than 27,000 persons were killed or injured in alcohol-related crashes.”
A recent AAA report found that 10 percent of motorists admit to driving when they thought their blood alcohol content was above the legal limit. “This is entirely preventable,” said Bloch.
People convicted of driving under the influence could lose many of the important things in their lives, such as family, job, dignity and money. The Auto Club estimates that a first time DUI conviction in California can cost approximately $12,176 or more in fines, penalties, restitution, legal fees and increased insurance costs.
Current laws, enforcement, public awareness, and education efforts by public service-oriented organizations, including the Auto Club, have contributed to the decline in the number of alcohol-related fatalities during the past 13 years. The Auto Club provides the Tipsy Tow service and free publications as part of its “You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.” public awareness campaign.
The Auto Club advises that motorists can keep themselves and others safe and can avoid DUI arrests by keeping these safety tips in mind:
• At social events, designate non-drinking drivers who can get everyone home safely.
• Call a friend or family member for a ride home if you have been drinking.
• Keep a cab company telephone number in your wallet so you can call for a ride home.
• As a party host, offer a variety of non-alcoholic drink alternatives and provide a gift to guests who volunteer to be designated drivers.
• Take the car keys away from friends and relatives who have had too much to drink.

Merry Christmas, TravelingDoggers!
Here is a fun video of Santa for you. Filmed in Pismo Beach.
Our first Christmas in Los Osos has been great. Lots of friends, stringing popcorn and cranberries at the 4th Street house, cocktails into the evening and a great Christmas visit to Cayucos with the dogs. Tom is cooking a roast which we will share with Merrimaker patrons and Jacqui the bartender.
Here are some shots I took while at Cayucos State Beach this morning. It's a glorious day here in the Central Coast!

Video courtesy The Virginian-Pilot. As she stepped off the ship and onto the dock at Virginia Beach, she kissed her partner, and it was all captured in a beautiful, loving photograph with a cheering crowd watching the whole scene. What makes this unique is that Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta of Placerville (California) and her partner, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell of Los Angeles, are the first gay couple in Navy history to share the "first kiss" moment.

Surpassing the President and various presidential hopefuls in views, the #1 video on our list comes from a young man in Iowa speaking candidly to his government. Zach Wahls’ 3 minute speech defending gay marriage has been viewed more than 18 million times.

|A young woman, needing text book money for college made this and others.|
I bought him for $3 last night.
I call him Gonzo.
The holiday season is thrust onto us so quickly. There is a joke at work that when the LiveOak Music Festival is over in June, Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Then Christmas. It's funny, but true. The TravelingDog Calendar has been handed out and mailed out to many impressed and grateful fans. It's always nice to hear which pictures are their favorites and to hear the squeals of delight from the new entries of people's birthdays. The latest being Tom, who had no idea when I asked him close to a year ago when his birthday was that he would be listed in this project.
It has been fun to hear people's comments as well when they realize that there is a Holiday on Every Day! I, myself, would have preferred something better than World Pasta Day, but it is what it is. I've always listed some inane holidays, but never on every day.
I decided to make a facebook page for AmosTravelingDog, which you can "like" on the right. Along with wishing birthdays on this page, I will list all of the holidays for the year. I have started doing this this past week. I will start to add birthdays at the start of the new year, which is also National Bloody Mary Day, go figure. It will also be, presumably, my first Polar Bear Dip. That, my friends, is another post.
Come and like us. Join the fun. If you'd like to add someone to next years calendar and help in filling every square, send an email, comment here or simply press the like button and add a comment on facebook. Cheers!
|Looks like Gonzo had too much celebration.|
Be safe this holiday season.

I got home from work yesterday, knowing that my 2012 Calendar had arrived. One 22.5 lb box filled with Holiday gifts and memories. Now to get the addresses and the money to mail all these out to my East Coast friends. Fortunately, I mail them in bulk to one individual in each area. Mom, Dwayne and Kate will play Santa for me.
I am not showing the calendar yet. What I will show are some of the pictures that did not make the cut. For whatever reason, bad exposure, blurry, not of interest, they were mot chosen. They were all contenders though. The title of this year's calendar is "TravelingDogs" and showcases Luther & BuddyJack traveling with us across America and at home. I usually start whittling down in October and make the final selection in November. I hope you enjoy them. Look forward to the seeing the top 13 for 2012 soon!
