Over ten years ago, my sister Karen gave me an idea. She thought it would be interesting to see how long it would take to fill up a calendar with people's birthdays for every day of the year. I have been collecting people's birthdays since then and have produced a calendar every year since.
The first calendar was made for Tom and my Folks in 2002. It was pretty generic with 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of thick paper with a small photo in the upper left hand side by the name of the month. I chose the pictures from some of our favorite photos of friends taken during that year. It was titled "Davey B's 2003 Photo Calendar" and only listed the holidays and time changes.

We used that calendar all year long, posting things we did including traveling out west for the first time, our activities in Ptown and people's birthdays. We have saved these calendars throughout the years and are able to reference what we were doing on any specific day for the past 9 years.
The following year, the "2004 Davey B Calendar" was titled "Amos Traveling Dog" and showcased Amos traveling across the USA. It also listed people's birthday's of my family and our friends in Ptown. I also listed the Native American names for the Full Moons throughout the year and some more inane holidays like Cinco de Mayo and May Day.

We loved being on the road and especially loved CA. We decided that we were going to move there. We tried, and failed. Finding work was too elusive, but the trials of heading out and heading back to Ptown offered more shots of the TravelingDog for 2005.

I also published a calendar of flowers which I gave to my mother and a friend Leo. If you have prowled along in this blog, you will know that I lost a years worth of pictures. Those pictures are lost forever in the media world. I still have the calendar that I gave my family.
As I stated earlier, we failed in making the transition to CA. The failure brought us back to Provincetown in the Spring with the knowledge of what we needed to do to try again, which we did. The 2006 Calendar was special to me as it afforded me the opportunity to work on the new calendar with an added bonus, pictures inside the boxes of the days showcasing some of our favorite people and special days. I was able to design it and then print it at my friend Dan Quirk's store in Ptown.

These are the photos which I added into the small squares of the calendar. All of these people continue to be listed and many still receive the calendar. Some have moved away, some have died. All of them are always thought of at least once a year. Many are thought of much more than that.

Each of the people listed above received a calendar that year at a holiday party on Nelson Ave. in Ptown. It was shortly there after that we left Provincetown for good and found our home in CA. It was also coming to the year that Amos passed away and was immortalized the final time in the 2007 Davey B Photo Calendar "AmosTravelingDog."

2007 was a hard year for Tom without Amos. We spent a lot of the year checking out our new areas in which we lived. The North County was hot with wine grapes. The South County was coastal for the most part. The Central Coast was glorious year round. No longer having Amos, I decided to show where we lived to our family and friends with the 2008 Davey B Photo Calendar with a surprising addition in December.

We really engrained ourselves into our new area. We had met many people from our jobs and from out and about. It was a good year. I started to add more to the calendar. More birthday's, more anniversaries, more special days. It was going to take a while, though, to fill up every square.

In 2011, we decided to take another road trip to my annual Mi'gmaq PowWow in Listuguj, PQ on the southern shore of the Gaspé Peninsula. We headed out due North from CA and took a right at the Trans-Canada Highway towards Quebec.
After the PowWow, we drove South to MA to spend more time with family & friends. The return trip home was decided upon the last time we were home; Route 6. The first Trans-continental Highway going from Provincetown, MA to Bishop, CA.

2013 was another year of traveling and trying to find new routes to travel. We didn't have to think to long as what is better than traveling down the road called Route 66? More capitols and many attractions led me to call the 2014 Calendar "Roadside Attractions"

Where do we go from here? December |
2014 was a year of movement. My work environment had changed and it was time to move on. We left our jobs in CA and headed to MA to work at a friend's restaurant, Pepe's Wharf in Provincetown, MA. It was a great season on Cape Cod and it also afforded me the chance to spend some time with my family in Lawrence.
In September, the season was over and for a brief moment I thought it would be good to head back to CA for work. One road trip out and then my decision to head back for the winter. Over 10,000 miles later, we are back in MA, watching over my parent's home while they are in FL for the winter.
I find it interesting that the calendar is made from the previous year's photos yet often reflects the current time. The first few months are in Lawrence where we are now living until April. Not sure what 2015 will bring, but the TravelingDogs are looking forward to the adventure.
